Emergency Freeze Plan
In response to lowering temperatures, the Outreach Center's Well day shelter opens its doors for "Freeze Plan" providing shelter to protect the area's homeless from life-threatening cold weather.

When temperatures near freezing, the Outreach Center's Well shelter offers a safe haven for men and women with no other place to turn to escape the freezing cold.
Operating hours are extended beyond 4 p.m. normal closing time and the shelter operates around the clock. Anyone needing a warm bed and a meal arrives at the Well at 6 p.m. In the past, Freeze Plan nights have offered shelter to approximately 60 homeless persons.
During these times the Outreach Center appeals to the community for donations of hot soup, gumbo, sandwich ingredients such as bread, meats and cheeses as well as coffee and hot chocolate to provide a meal. To help combat the cold temperatures donations of blankets, gloves, coats, pants, and socks are essential. Long-lasting pocket handwarmers are also greatly needed to generate safe comfortable warmth for people exposed to the harsh elements. Paper and plastic goods donations are also encouraged, such as paper towels, toilet paper, plates, cups and eating utensils. Hygiene supplies are also needed with ongoing daily needs for soap, shampoo, and laundry detergent. Cash gifts are appreciated to keep these vital services operating.
Donations can be delivered to the Outreach Center, 125 S. Buchanan St., between 8:30 am and 5 pm, Monday - Friday. To make a donation or for more information, call (337)237-7618.
