Outreach Center Opens Recovery Action Center
In an effort to expand and simultaneously create a better vehicle to deliver services, the Outreach Center is pleased to announce the opening of the Recovery Action Center.
With the closing of the Well Day Shelter, the Outreach Center has shifted away from the revolving door of day shelters and allocated resources to the Recovery Action Center. The Recovery Action Center, a previously empty warehouse, has been renovated to provide an efficient, single-entry center offering clients permanent solutions to achieve self-sufficiency.
The Recovery Action Center is not just a new setting but also a better vehicle for delivering basic human dignity services coupled with in-depth comprehensive case management and recovery programs focused on achieving significant and lasting outcomes.
“Through our unending commitment to improve the Outreach Center, we are very excited to open the Recovery Action Center. We now have a central location on our campus where all of our resources converge. Clients have easier access to address the root causes of their situation, primarily mental illness and substance abuse, giving them a better chance at recovery and self-sufficiency,” says Bob Giles, President of the Board of Directors for the Center.
"So many of us forget that the clients of the Outreach Center are not strangers. They are mothers, fathers, sisters, sons, cousins and neighbors who have simply gotten lost," says Valerie Keller, Chief Executive Officer of the Outreach Center. "They don't need a hand out, but a hand up to restore their shattered lives to become contributing citizens again.”
Keller continued, “Through the dedication of the Center’s staff we were able to touch the lives of more than 5,687 men, women and children last year. These are real people, many of whom have achieved self-sufficiency and can now have a chance at life again."
The Recovery Action Center will host its official community grand opening on March 11 at 4 PM on the Outreach Center’s campus located at 125 S. Buchanan St., on the corner of Second and Buchanan in Downtown Lafayette. For directions or more information about the Recovery Action Center contact Amanda Toups at 237.7618 x 202.
